Twitter

One time in the semester, you will sign up to livetweet a class. This means that, while class is going on, you’ll report on our conversations using the hashtag #498digital.

How much you tweet will depend on your facility at cutting up the ongoing conversation into 140-character chunks – it takes practice, and while some people (like your instructor) find it to be fun, it isn’t for everyone. You must tweet at least 10 times during your livetweeting session, but we can be flexible on the interpretation of “live.” So long as the tweets are made on the day of class, I will count them. That means that if you find you just can’t tweet about class while it is happening, you can go home afterwards and tweet 10 140-character excerpts from your notes.

When you livetweet class, remember that your tweets are public. Don’t tweet anything personal about classmates (or anyone else, for that matter). On the first day, we’ll discuss as a class what ground rules we would like to set for the class’s use of Twitter.

  • Don’t tweet names. Tweet what was said, but not who said it. Unless the person has given permission for their name to be used.
